I’ve been plugging yesterdays swap meet for many weeks now. It hasn’t been full time work as per say – but it has taken a lot of time as far as trying to juggle everyone from the venue to stall holders and key scene ‘leaders’. Just between you and me,  I really think most of the time was spent stressing about nothing.

The day started with 2 hours sleep, then packing the car and being there to sort everyone out as they rocked up 2 hours before we opened. Having never done this big a swap meet before, I ran through (in my head) every sort of problem we might face setting up. But before you know it, it was opened and people started turning up. It really was one of those minimum fuss days thanks to the boys from the venue and all the stall holders.

I reckon at least 1500 people (if not more) came through. And the place was seriously packed for more than two hours at the peak of the beautiful sunny last day of autumn. Everyone I spoke to seemed like they were having a good time and when the beers started rolling through – everyone was well settled. It felt like an urban picnic with stalls of other peoples stuff which you could buy. Was really good to see all the sub-cultures mingling. Heaps of crew rocked up on their ‘colourful’ bikes and thanks to the freestyler busting some moves outside. Was certainly a bit of icing for the cake. Unfortunately there was a minor inconvenience with the cafe not being open, but most made do by sacrificing the 30 second walk to Brunswick St for food and refreshment.

Thanks to all involved and that helped, and thanks to all that came to have a look or just to hang out with mates. Next time is gonna be bigger and much better. Maybe a BBQ? You betcha!
