FAKE BLOOD

20 08 2009

This is for my wife and everyone else who is currently addicted to TRUE BLOOD (the series). I guess in the 80’s and 90’s many people wished they were Vampires cos it was just the thing to do. It all started with the Dracula movies in the 20’s and 30’s, but it didn’t appeal to many people cos ol’ count himself was old and in black and white. He also didn’t have the advantage of special effects of the next few decades which really made being a vampire cool.

Then the 80’s came around and there was The Lost Boys. Even I, who was a teenager then, wanted to hang upside down off a tree and scare people. We even went through the trouble of wearing trench coats. If you live in a tropical climate, you would understand how ridiculous this was.

So it was the 90’s and there were movies like ‘Interview With A Vampire’ and ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’. Goths and horror movie fans went nuts. And if you thought you were too cool for romanticism, there was ‘Blade’, ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ and of course ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’.

Movies such as ‘Underworld’ and more recently the phenomenal ‘Twilight’, are two prime examples.

Today, the number one reason why Vampires are cool again is because of the series True Blood. I mean, first of all there is Anna Paquin. Secondly you can’t really go wrong with a character name like such as Sookie Stackhouse. The series in a nutshell is based on a time where Vampires are ‘accepted’ in everyday society. With the help of a synthetic concoction called ‘True Blood’, the vampires can survive without having to suck on humans for food. Which brings us to this…
